  • Not that any of you folks will really care, but the division and infighting among the fans on this forum has gotten me to a point to where I need to step back from HFDC for a while. Every time I get on, I'm hopeful that we've managed to unite as a fanbase, and this season, it's obvious that that isn't going to happen.

I lurk here A LOT, and usually don't respond or post unless I really deem it important; hence my low post count. I hate that I'm going to have to cut out one of the websites I love visiting, but I really absolutely can't deal with people who should be united constantly bickering.

Hope all of ya'll have a great rest of your football season, and hopefully when I come back, The Herd is still a one loss team with a  Conference Championship, a Top 25 Ranking, and a good bowl bid under it's belt.

    See you guys then....Go Herd!

DISCLAIMER: I'm gonna lurk tonight just to see what kind of ridiculous (or hopefully positive) posts this one garners. Tomorrow, I'm out. Later, all!

  • I've had the same position since last year.   I know everyone on here loves the herd, but sometimes it feels as though the magnitude of hatred for the coaching staff is greater than love for the herd.   I still enjoy lurking on occasion catching some of the info out of towners don't get.

  • Well, 2 of the top 3 have strong poutie ties. In the minds of some, like mine, it will be extremely difficult to overcome that last shadow of doubt about them. And we have had plenty of eye-openers to feed the conspiracy theories I am so fond of. Yes, the staff overall has been generally successful, but many of us fans see the potential for so much more.

And, in my opinion, it is even more noteworthy that a local sports writer dubbed Herd Football as the hardest team to handicap in all of college football / FBS. His words, not mine. That cannot be a good thing! Marshall in it's glory years of the 90's and early double oughts was the gamblers friend. Then Snyder comes along, and also the early years of Doc, when not even a huge "kicker" added to the point spread would allow Marshall to cover because we were being beaten so badly, and not always by the P5 either.

I am not saying anything definite, I am only pointing out what I believe are potentially troublesome peculiarities. And, when we see a product on the field after the 2016 opener that figuratively shouted WE QUIT at seemingly every turn and at the highest volume from both players and coaches, you are going to get backlash. More backlash than in my opinion the Herd braintrust ever expected, complete with a political call for Pruett's return. And it didn't help for Hamrick to come out and try to blame the fans for the obvious nincompoopery going on during that campaign. What was he thinking.

Don't blame you.  What's going on here is kind of like what's going on in the country as a whole.  People make up their minds about something and then can't adapt as information becomes available.  Instead of reassessing the situation, they stay tied to their initial position because they don't want to be wrong.  Opinions have become sports teams; people don't want their opinion to lose.

Instead of "Herdfans" this place is people who root for Marshall athletics vs. people who had their mind made up before the season and can't stand it that they were wrong.

    It's beyond lame.

  • Super put it in the best way...people had their minds made up that Doc and Co are terrible and they can’t take a step back and enjoy the season..not able to adapt the narrative..

It could also be the other way around.  That some fans opinion is that after 7 full seasons Doc and Co. really are not considered good coaches, and that other fans cannot step back and enjoy the season without being upset by said opinions.  It's just opinions......everybody has one.

I'm enjoying this season, even though I've been very critical of Doc and Legg. Doc could have eliminated a lot of concern for Herd fans by hiring a new offensive coordinator in the off season. One thing you should keep in mind and it should be a "major concern for you as well", ( We have to much talent on the offensive side of the ball to be going to waste!) I was "livid" yesterday when we had only produced 7 points at the half. Going back to the Charlotte game, (that's only 21 points in 6 qrt's against teams that wouldn't even be in (the top 30 of FCS division football.) If we're going to be successful, we are going to have to get our offense in perpetual motion moving forward, it finally came about in the 4th qrt. We can't depend on our defense to bail us out every game.

  • Since it is just sports, and not something actually important, this is a perfect place to practice tolerating intolerant posts, tolerating intolerant responses to intolerant posts, etc.

I enjoy the back and forth. I guess not everyone does.

If your arguing opponent uses lame arguments, straw men, changes the subject, kitchen sinks, gets personal, etc., just point it out to them. I think a lot of people on here strive to argue mostly fairly, most of the time.

If we would all take a step back and take a deep breath, we'd realize that besides kinship amongst Herd fans, it is usually the information and the arguments, not the rightness or wrongness of our particular positions, that we come here to get clarity on. The value of a premise is in no way tied to the author or adherent of the premise.

Or maybe I'm just living in another world.

I think the Herd is not a good football team, but some of you disagree with me, and I am OK with that. It sure is a heck of a lot better than last year.

  • I am fine with discussion, but three or four guys come on here with the same crap often times more than once daily. It started this summer, and they appear to be incapable of enjoying any success the football team has. How one can take a day such as yesterday and turn it into a total negative is beyond my comprehension.
