Here's an article about Kroger's renovations in Huntington.
HUNTINGTON - A $2.6 million renovation, nine months in the making, was celebrated early Wednesday morning at the 5th Avenue Kroger's grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Wendy Jenkins, the store manager, said the remodel, which began in March, was designed to improve the convenience for shoppers by making the store more open and easier to maneuver in.
Even though the ceremony was dubbed a reopening, Jenkins said the store stayed open throughout the renovations.
The improvements could be spotted as soon as customers walked through the doors.
Directly to the left of the entrance is the store's pharmacy, complete with a waiting area for customers, a counseling area and a private area for vaccinations. Prior to the remodel, Jenkins said, the pharmacy was located in the middle of the store.
Next to the pharmacy is the customer service desk, which Jenkins said is more accessible at the front of the store.
Other changes include a new location for grocery carts, the addition of a floral shop and a larger variety of items in the produce, deli and bakery departments, as well as Marshall University-branded items.
The store also features photographs of Huntington landmarks and of buildings at Marshall.
In addition to the physical changes, the store has created 10 new jobs, bringing the total to 125.
Connie Jordan, 66, of Huntington, said she was in love with all the new changes.
"It will take some getting used to, but I still love what they did," she said. "It's so clean ... the aisles are wider. It feels like there's so much more space."
Jordan said she has been shopping at the location since before it became a Kroger and is happy to see the store having a vested interest in making the community better.
To add to her excitement over the revamped store, Jordan was one of 200 people who received a $5 Kroger gift card as part of the grand reopening ceremony.
Customers were also treated to holiday desserts and snacks.
The event was attended by Huntington Mayor Steve Williams; Bill Bissett, president and chief executive officer of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce; Huntington City Council Chairman Mark Bates and other local leaders who applauded the company's continued investment in the community.
The nearly 68,000-square-foot store is at 2627 5th Ave. and was last remodeled in 2009.
Jenkins said similar renovations have begun at the Kroger at the corner of 1st Street and West 7th Avenue in Huntington.http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news/th-avenue-kroger-unveils-revamped-store-to-customers/article_35dfdfb0-2565-53f3-b865-f1a13db9a140.html
