Marcum in no hurry to name new MU coach

Marshall athletic director Bob Marcum took just 11 days to hire a new basketball coach in June 2003.

He already has taken longer with his search for a football coach. Today marks the two-week mark since the retirement of Bob Pruett, the Thundering Herd’s winningest coach.

Marcum said Tuesday a decision is not imminent this week, and he didn’t sound like he was expediting the process.
 
Then again, Marcum has an extra month before the beginning of football practice. In 2003, he had to replace Greg White less than four months until hoops practice.

Six candidates have been culled from the 60 or so applications and resumes, but Marcum stressed that was just the first round of the selection process. Even Tuesday, more resumes were arriving in Huntington.

Those will be sent to the three-man screening committee, consisting of Menis Ketchum, vice chairman of the school’s Board of Directors, Big Green Scholarship Foundation president Larry Tweel and Dr. Robert Bookwalter, MU’s NCAA faculty representative.

“Our screening committee has only had one meeting,” Marcum said. “We’re just working away as applications and resumes come in.”

Marshall athletic director Bob Marcum took just 11 days to hire a new basketball coach in June 2003..

As I said I hope he takes a diligent approach with this hire then he did with the basketball hire.

Are you feeling alright tonight?  This is like the 8th post you've had today that has been railing Marcum.  Not that I'm not saying Marcum does or does not deserved to be criticized.  It just seems like you're very troubled today.  Anything else going on that 's got you worked up?  Not trying to pick on you or anything.  Just showing some concern.

We'll BGT, look at the BB program, in shambles, now the way he is conducting the FB HC position search. It is easy for us to critizise the coach, but it is K.O. who is appointing these people, and in 360 degree fairness all is not well.

Thanks for the post. You could post it across the head of some people in position that I am thinking of, and I am not certain that it would do any good . Lord help me, I'am falling!, and with the great athletic leadership we have here at MU under the leadership of Marscum we could not ask for anything more!?>

Right now, it is the most crucial time the University athletic community has ever been confronted with since 1970. Then, we decided to move foward, and you can see where that has now ended. Now, however, the question is not whether we move foward, but whether we move upward. Your vote counts now, more than ever, and however you vote will assist my reply as to how we can help the Big Green Club. The question is, do we move foward, or upward? Only you, the multi state MU community hold the answer. Here, in WVA, things are down, we need your help. If you can, we are going to move up. If you cannot, we are going to move foward which will means, we go down . Its up to you. WVA has always been out of the loop, and anyone who leaves here educated knows this. We need your help now. The Marshall University community needs your help now.

If by moonlight , or dashlight, its not enough light on what is happening at MU right now before our eyes. i.e., unless you have that special invasion of understanding that we are not all blessed with.

Meanwhile at MU, we will be fortunate to have one (1) decent recruit out of this class. With Marscum, Jirka doing the HERD, I wonder if we have any hope. I believe, Marscum should have been born a few years earlier in his life, and Japanese. He could have been a (c) pilot for them, and we would be, in a much better position today.

Is it that, perhaps I am paranoid, about this new FB hiring situation, or do other people feel like myself;  We could get scre#ed on this one. There just seems to me, a lack of the spoken word, untouchables in this process. The press is not doing their part, to dig, and get the low down on what is taking place. The Administration, conduct's their daily business like the multi-state MU community doesn't exist. It sort of reminds be of the 1960 election in West Virginia, or about (9) months before we are to go the ballot box.

If someone would just play the WW Barron for gov. fight song one time, or something like that, than maybe I would feel better. Remember, "WE NEED A MAN OF ACTION TO SAVE THE DAY, WALLY BARRON IS HIS NAME!" just any little tidbit would make me feel like I am not all alone out here, and am getting ready for my first trial landing.

Is it just me, or do others' have this erie feeling.

The majority of those quotes are from today alone.  I didn't bother to go back the last two weeks since Pruett retired.  I think we'll all share concern for Marshall, this hire, and the athletic department as a whole.  You've just seem to taken it to an unhealthy level.

There's no deneying I have been hurt, and am sensitive about this hire. I love MU, and the program, and yes, sometimes my personality shows in my posts. That is a shortcoming I have, but this, as I have said before, is the most crucial decision since 1970.
