  • Texas, I know Gale very well and, in fact, have gone on two recruiting trips with him. HE WANTS THE JOB. IT HAS BEEN A GOAL OF HIS FOR A FEW YEARS. You described him well and are, obviously an astute person.  He is a quite guy with a deep passion for the game. I'm not trying to be argumentive, Tezas. But, take it from me, Mark really desires the MU job.

I'm not saying Mark is the man for the job or not. I don't know. But, I hate for Marcum to treat him as he treated Mike D'Antonie(?).

  • I have to be honest.  I was stunned that Kueck got it over Coach Gale.  The fact that he's the associate head coach and was not named the interim means they aren't even considering him.

  • Maybe Gale didn't want it in this fashion.

Who knows what has been going on?

All I know is that it is sure strange.

  • I find it hard to believe that Gale didn't want it and wasn't vocal about it.  Landon was talking about Kueck's resume and all the places he's been.  I'd hate to see a man not get picked to be our Head Coach because he was loyal enough to Marshall to stay for 15 years.

  • I have some very loyal employees at work. None of them could run my organization. This is not a reflection of what I think of Gale. I am not expert enough to make those determinations...but i do know that loyalty does not equal capability.

  • appears to be riding off into the sunset, but that does not change the fact that I think the Herd teams of 2006 and 2007 stand to have the best talent in the history of Marshall football.  Last I checked, the players still play the games.

The football coach is an employee of the state. I believe there has to be a mandatory posting of the job ( a search).

Once a man tastes retirement he may never come back. Possibly he has already told them he would come back if certain things were done. It seems to me that he would come back under certain criteria. Perhaps it is up to the administration to make the next move. Or....perhaps Pruett is gone and the timing he set up does not allow for drastic changes within the coaching ranks. Wish I knew whether things are as they appear to be.

I don't know if Pruett would come back, but you're right it must be posted - I'm not too clear with this - maybe, WheelingHerd could clarify, but a state job must be posted and bidded internally first then it goes out. Again, I'm not sure.
In the middle of Huntington, West Virginia, there is a river. Next to this river, there is a steel mill. And next to the steel mill, there's a school. In the middle of this school, there's a fountain. Each year, on the exact same day, the exact same hour, the water to this fountain is turned off. And in this moment, once every year, throughout the town, throughout the school, time stands still.

  • jstherd, thanks for letting me know he wanted the job.  I jumped the point and thouht that a quite man probably wouldn't want the lime light of a HCing job.  Whoever is the head coach, we all need to support and pray for the best
