  • Well, that's the case if you listen to a lot of folks right now.  Wonder what you said when we brought in a guy with not one single day of head coaching experience and who had never coached anyone on the offensive side of the ball?

  • The concern is not coach retiring its the reason behind why he retired and the fact the powers have decided the football program isnt a priority any longer.   One of the reasons the university was able to expand over the past 10 years is a direct effect of what coach did getting our name out across the country via the football program.   No other coach we hire will be able to continue the growth we've had without the support of the President and BOG's.  And if Bob Pruett couldnt get promised commitments and support from that group how in the world will the next guy be able to?  To say I'm worried is putting it mildly.

  • Can we not have a legitimate discussion without resorting to calling people names?  Do you call people cry babies and chicken littles in your cross examinations as well?  I would expect a more thought provoking dialog from an attorney.

  • For the record, I do share your thoughts though.  I'm not ready to sound the alarms and get a headstone ready for MU football.  I just think there are more productive ways to win a debate and people's hearts than name calling.

  • Give it some time folks.  Concerns are one thing.  Hand wringing is quite another.  Let's see what develops and then come to conclusions.  As for Coach Pruett, I've made my post about that but to sum up:

    1.  He wants to live long enough to see his grandchildren graduate from high school.  Coaching at the Division I-A level with Type-2 diabetes is incompatible with that goal.

    2.  Everyone wants to retire at some point in his/her life.  Coach decided that doing so before spring practice started was the right time for him.  Not for you.  Not for me.  For him.

You wont get an argument from me about that, Mako.  But still you have to admit this whole thing stinks of more than its "just time" for coach to hang 'em up dont you think?  we are at a crossroads with the entire university and Pruett should get the majority of credit for that.  He should be leading us into CUSA...nobody else but him.

  • Mako good post!

I am a Type-I or Insulin Dependent Diabetic.  I can empathize with Coach P. I never use it as an excuse and it can create some problems if not taken care of.  Diabetes is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. If these are the reasons Coach P retired, then I applaude him for knowing the limitations of his body and the importance of seeing his family more often.

  • no indoor practice facility mentioned again in today's h-d. this among others is why mu will now be a lower rung in c-usa. it's hard to accept it but i believe this may come true. i guess i will just root for a team with a real promise to athletics and national prominence. go bucks!! if not for football marshall would not be seeing all the new construction they are right now on campus!!
if you want more oil at a cheaper price vote republican. if you want the same amount of oil in current supply at a higher price, vote democrat and for a windfall profit tax!

    Ouch.

It is true though that Marshall University NEEDS a strong football program for us to succeed.  We are still an up and coming school when talking about national recognition.  The state isn't behind us completely.  If it were up to them, Marshall would be #2 to WVU at all times, instead of the state having two solid, equal universities.  This is why we NEED national success and exposure -- to boost ourselves up.

I hope to God we don't fall off.
