Great win, glad to see WVU is willing to play these series. Would think the soccer relationship would open up all sports. The atmosphere shows why we should play.
WVU seems like it takes its cues from the respective coaches about whether to play MU or not. Soccer coach has a great relationship with Grassie, so we play. Mazey sees the benefit of playing in-state rival, so we play (I'm sure there's a level of respect for Beals, but to Mazey's credit he played MU since he's been at WVU). Former volleyball coach at WVU saw the benefit, helped create the "Golden Ball" trophy, but current coach does not so the two don't play.
MU needs to step up its competitiveness in all sports so that its dodging if WVU doesn't play MU. (Note: With 9 conference games in the Big 12, two traditional rivals or national games and one at-home patsy, the chances of every playing WVU again in football are not great... and I understand that.)
No reason that WVU and Marshall can't play in men's and women's soccer, baseball, volleyball, tennis, swimming/diving, men's golf and men's and women's basketball. WVU isn't so far ahead of MU in any of those sports (with the possible exception of women's soccer) to make it unscheduleable (if that's a word)
