  • should be an interesting WR cast

The whispers around Marshall are saying:

better than Watts on his best day.

Could be the next Randy Moss...numbers wise

Filer is a great get, DJ.  However, so was Mandell Smith.

  • They were saying Mandell Smith was going to be great before he got here.  Filer is already here and working out.  The coaches can get a look at them anytime they work out.  If people are saying he is great, then I believe it.

  • I have no doubt that Filer is going to be awesome along with Smith, Fitz, Hargrove, etc....  All we need now is a deep ball QB to step up and throw.  I know Morris is up in the air because of his legal troubles but that ball he threw against OSU was a long and deep missle (even though it was imcomplete).  That's the kind of Arm I'm talking about.  It's just wait and see time and it's killing me.  Go Herd...

I'm not taking anything away from Jermaine.  Nor am I not saying that Smith wasn't the real deal.  I'm just saying that until he's played his career, comparing him to Watts or Moss is futile.

  • I agree with Blade.  Especially comparing our QB's to Chad & Byron.  We as fans put a lot of expectations on these players by doing so.  Then as a fan you feel let down when they don't perform at that caliber.  I know that it's fun to gauge the talent on our past but we will never have another Chad, Byron, Randy, Troy, Darius here at marshall BUT we may have a Jermaine, Mandell, Marcus, Ahmad and the list continues on baby.  The future is so bright I need sunglasses (lol).  Go Herd...

  • I've read some great articles online about Jermaine Filer's days in high school.  His prep coach said things like, "we won't be able to replace Filer's explosiveness".  He scored a bunch of touchdowns, three on defense!?!

If he can pickup the playbook, should be a great player.

  • Got a very good report from one of the coaches today about Filer. Said he is working hard and is just a good kid in general and is  on track with grades.

  • I think (if Filer is all that he has been hyped to be) could be a BIG part of our offense this year.  From what has been reported he has a good attitude, is a hard worker and has the natural talent to do some very good things this year.  Add to that the fact that setting on the sidelines last year has only made him hungry for PT.

If he breaks into the starting lineup, it will be a testament of his ability.  I look for Span and Fitzgerald to really improve this year and possibly Hiram to finally get on track.  As we noted last year, nothing beats experience.  Behind them is Lauzon, Hargrove and Manns and I fully expect him to break the 2-deep.  Too bad Mandell was so impatient.  He could have had a great senior year and made the pros playing here.

  • You guys are also forgeting the kid from KY that is 6'4!!   I know he will be a FR but with his size and his ability having him on one side of the field and Filer on the other with Fitz and and someone else sprinkled in we could have a promising future at WR.

  • The kid from KY, who is 6'4'', will probably not play this year from what I understand.  Unless he gets his grades in order, he will probably have to sit out a year.  Things can change very fast though.

  • Things will be fine on the WR front, although spann was a valuable piece of the puzzle, we are still fairly deep at WR.  Hopefully, the chance of starting will push some of the guys to work even hard in spring practice and summer.

Well I thought so last season but the truth is that it takes experience to run college routes.  Spann and Fitzgerald struggled getting separation between them and the defenders much of the year.  Filer hasn't played a down. It will take time, and our conference schedule starts early.
