The worst part about Pruett leaving is it could mean that we have a horrible season by any standards, unless the team is somehow motivated by coach leaving or the new coach is someone the players can and/or already trust. I hope we can hire some that is both GREAT and QUALIFIED to coach THE HERD!

I just hope that our incoming recruits stay with us.  I would hate to lose what we landed.

Depends on the hire, guys.  Let's not over-react...yet.  Very disappointing news to say the least.  Someday I imagined Pruett out of coaching.  I just never thought I would see him out of Marshall for a long time.  A very, very huge loss...

The most confusing part is he signed a contract extension after the 2003 season.

I have to agree with Blade on this but you can't help to think about our Recruits.  I also think about violations.  Not saying there is one but you tend to think of things of the such with this type of timing.  I have confidence in Pruett and Marcum on his replacement.  It's sad day as a Herd Fan but it will come and go.

Has anyone considered the thought of bringing in Rick Neuheisel - he is a great coach and a better recruiter. He looking to rebuild his rep and I am sure money is not a giant concern for him. I would be behind that hire. What do you guys think?

Personally, Bobby Pruett has brought me more joy than anyone I don't really know...by that,  I mean I find Bobby preferable to any actor, politician, televangeilst, etc.  He has been an influence on my life and is among my favorite celebrities.

That said, every football head coaching hire since Sonny Randle has been better than the one before.  We have reason to have faith and confidence in the direction of Marshall football and I hope Uncle Bobby will remain involved to some extent.

In the meantime, the question is always what can I do about this except wring our hands.  The answer is simple, fellow posters.  Support the BG, get those season tickets, go to fantasy camp if you can afford it.  And plan to have a big old time at spring practice.  Enjoy, Marshall football is one of the good things in life.

Marshall football has been in good hands for a long time and I truly believe it has an angel (not the Dr.) on its shoulder.  We  are all saddened and shocked by whatever is transpiring today, but I have a lot of confidence it will all work out.  In the meantime, let's do what we can do and trust others to do what they can do.

Marshall University Football Coach Bobby Pruett is expected to announce his retirement today, according to Sports Information Director Randy Burnside.

A press conference has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Shewey Facilities Building at Joan C. Edwards Stadium near the Marshall campus.

bbcard1, I couldn't agree more...time to rally the troups folks!  Get behind the Herd, become BG members, buy your season tickets and add one for good measure.  I'm very optimistic about the changes and I believe our program is in very good hands.  Time to show your colors because our finest hour hasn't come yet...we're going to a new level...a new era...I'm on board and excited...how about you?
