  • Wasn't there some legal trouble while he was at "Bama".  Maybe the driver when a crime was committed or something?

  • What, are we suddenly a landing spot for the children of athletic department employees? Corny will have to kid glove the guy since his father is his immediate supervisor. I have a subscription to The NY Times and intend to investigate this further. However, it appears that the NY Times has issued some type of retraction of their original report placing Kai Spears in the automobile tied to a murder investigation near the University of Alabama.

  • Going off memory, the original story put him associated with the incident , a lawsuit was involved and factual corrections and apologizes were made.

Couldn't be any worse than Pruett, Theinamen (?) and seemingly dozens of others brought in the last decade. Walk on.

I remember Todd Donnan playing for his father.  Didn't Jack Cook's son play for him?

I am not sure if Spears is getting a scholarship and I don't care? There are what 13 scholarships in D1 basketball? Every team including Marshall has a scholarship player who never sees the playing floor unless the game is a runaway. Older fans will remember Willie Wilcox, I am not saying Spears will be another Willie, but I am not going to worry about the player at the end of the bench. Hopefully CJ will not fill the entire roster with players who don't contribute like Dan did in most years.

In regards to our closet wvu fan Lord Poo Poo, I believe the football and basketball coaches report directly to Brad Smith not the AD. Not sure.

  • He earned a scholarship with Alabama.  He must do something right.  They've been decent within the SEC, lately.  Certainly better than we've been in the Sun Belt.

  • I have no problem with this. I'm sure he is as good as Nutter, Marko, Braun and lots of others Danny gave scholarships to and kept for years on the bench. He is a walk on that came from Alabama after earning a scholarship.

Any athletic directors kid who goes to a school where the parent works is going to walk on to save a scholly. He gets tuition paid for anyways.

Thank you for confirming he is walking on and you know the process of it.

Of course he will get his schooling paid for, pretty common for coaches and employees children if they are in good academic position.

    - He was all-academic SEC so grades not an issue
    - His team in Pittsburgh area won the small school state championship at least once while he was there.

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would see this as a bad thing.  At the very least the basketball team gets some more attention from the AD, which could help with budget and funding when dollars are tight.

  • Alabama was a number 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, a final four team and ranked 3 in the nation at one point.

If he deserved a scholarship there, he deserves a shot here.
